July, 2005
Although this looks like a lot of branches, it is actually a single complex leaf emerging from a tuber. The largest one stood over 4 feet tall.
November, 2005
When it started getting cold, the leaf died, leaving, on this particular tuber, a short pink protuberance. This is the beginning of the peduncle, which will support the inflorescence..
March 12, 2006
I realized that the flower stalk had been growing! It is now a little over a foot tall.

March 13, 2006
Another 6 inches in one day! Scary!

March 17, 2006

Developing the "spadix"
March 29, 2006
The spathe is starting to open up. At the point, the plant started to get a little "whiffy," like you had forgotten to take out the garbage.

March 30, 2006
As it opened up more, the plant really began to stink! I had to evict it. Really smelled like something had died three days ago.
It is almost 5 feet tall.
March 31, 2006
The patterning of colors is quite unique.
March 30, 2006
It really does attract flies!
April 7, 2006
The spadix has started drooping. It gradually collapsed after this.
